I’m really excited about Kelly’s choice for the charity all Streets Initiative donations are going to this period since it focuses on a sector of society often forgotten about…our senior citizens. To make a donation to this awesome organization just follow the link:

What began as a church initiative back in 1969 soon grew into a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income and homeless seniors aged 55 and older. Their mission is simple yet powerful: to provide services without judgment, offering dignity and compassion to seniors who might otherwise fall through the cracks. I’ve often thought about the difficult position a senior could find themselves with no money, no family, and no support…it’s a pretty scary reality.
A key program of theirs is the Geriatric Community Support Program, which sends outreach workers directly to where seniors are—homes, hospitals, or shelters. These workers provide practical assistance with forms, government benefits, taxes, and advocacy, ensuring that seniors can access the support they need to remain safe and independent.
Housing is another cornerstone of OFSS. The society operates five facilities that provide more than 250 units of affordable housing, from bachelor suites to supportive-care lodges. This housing gives seniors stability and community while addressing the serious shortage of safe, affordable options for older adults in the inner city.
Although OFSS had to close its long-standing drop-in centre in 2023 due to financial and safety concerns, it continues to combat isolation through recreational programs like sing-alongs, bingo, and seasonal outings. These activities provide seniors with opportunities for friendship, social connection, and joy.
Volunteers and community partners also play a major role. Through the Volunteer Program, people contribute by sponsoring meals, gardening, or simply visiting. Initiatives such as “Stocking Stuffers for Seniors”, which delivers thousands of holiday gifts, ensure that no senior feels forgotten.
Above all, OFSS remains committed to treating every client with respect, inclusion, and compassion.
By combining outreach, housing, and community engagement, the society has become a lifeline for Edmonton’s inner-city seniors—proving that dignity and friendship are as essential as shelter and care. Any monetary donations or items dropped off at their distribution center at 10403-95st are greatly appreciated! Any and all help contributes to making the world a better place! As always, Edmonton, thanks for your continuing support and generosity for those less fortunate. Again that link is:
