As The Streets Initiative’s Featured Runner for March and April, Chris Skrenek chose Second Chance Animal Rescue Society as the organization to receive donations. SCARS aim is to protect all animals from cruelty and suffering and promote humane treatment. They care for 200 pets at any given time and find homes for as many as 1200 every year. The critters in their care receive vaccinations, are spayed or neutered, and given anything else that may be required.
Based out of Edmonton and Athabasca, SCARS is a non-profit charity that relies heavily on donations and other fund raising efforts such as website advertising, bottle donation, and the selling of memberships just to name a few. In particular, SCARS Walls for Winter program provides shelters and straw for rural communities that would otherwise not be able to adequately provide shelter for dogs. As always, donations through www.thestreetsinitiative.org are encouraged and very much appreciated, but can also be made at the SCARS website.
