Located right here in Edmonton at 18504-111 Ave is a charitable organization that is vital to the well being of our troops. The Veterans Association Food Bank exists directly as a result of the closure of the Royal Canadian Legion’s Food Bank back in 2018. It was created by Marie Blackburn to fill the hole that was left and still allow for the ability of veterans in need to have something to rely on in times of need or crisis. The VAFB names the four key issues facing veterans as being hunger, homelessness, isolation, and suicide, and they manage operations accordingly to deal primarily with individuals in these categories.
Like any charity they can only exist with outside help. There are many ways to assist other than just monetary donations or dropping off goods for their food bank. Other ways you can help the VA include hosting a fundraiser or a food drive as a part of an event or sponsoring a hamper or even becoming a drop off location for food or other non perishable items. If you do, in fact, want to donate food, the website at http://www.veteransassociation.ca has a list of food items that are needed at any given time and any help is greatly appreciated. Check out the site for this and all sorts of other information regarding this organization. If you want to make a donation (which I think would be AWESOME), just hit this link: https://thestreetsinitiative.org/edmontonians-love-donating/
Thanks Edmonton for your continuing generosity, you guys are the best!
