Week 176 Let’s get Rollin’! Again!

At the start of the year I had a pretty good feeling that I would be able to meet my goals for distance this year. 1500kms is still the goal but I got tripped up with a weird virus and a cancer relapse in January and was undergoing radiation treatment which inhibited with my ability to get out as much as I wanted. In fact as I write this I think I’m only at 100kms for the year. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be OK so I’m not super worried from that standpoint but to crunch the numbers right now, let’s see…. I’ve never been a savant at math but if I still want to get 1500 kms in this year that means I need to run 1400 kms over the next 8 months. That’s 175 km per month for the rest of 2024. 175 is towards the upper end of what I traditionally do but it’s still doable. I’ll give it a shot anyhow, I do eventually want to get this project complete before I’m a senior citizen but, boy I expected to be finished long ago and here I am only maybe half way.

Over by The Derrick golf course are the neighborhoods of Ermirneskin, Sweet Grass, Steinhauer, and Greenview. Pretty typical neighborhoods and all with alleys but I imagine I’ll get these done pretty quick. This only leaves me with the Southeast range roads by Beaumont and a couple other random areas that have grown slightly after I was there as the last bit of Edmonton south of the Whitemud Freeway to go. In fact there actually isn’t all that much left to do before I get up to the river and then it’s all north side baby! I think the north side is where things will get interesting and I’ll have to be strategic with how and when I complete certain areas. I’ll start thinking about that soon but right now the focus is getting to the ‘Mud.

The first pic I posted on this post are a couple of the nurses, Patty and Fern, that helped me out during the radiation sessions, thanks to those fine ladies! Thanks to everyone else for their support, already over $15,000 dollars has been raised for local charities in Edmonton. I’m over 4000 kms in so far and certainly will have run over 5000 by the end of 2024 which is a major milestone. I’ll be sure to whoop it up a bit when I hit that! I love that these organizations are able to benefit in a small way and it’s really been great meeting with the people involved and getting to share in their cause. Gimme a honk for support if you see me out there (or just a honk for me to get outta your way for that matter) and keep up the support everyone, it’s much appreciated!
