Kicking off year number five for The Streets Initiative is Barb Jensen, a 44-year-old Communications Director with the Canada Revenue Agency. A proud mother of one, Barb grew up in St. Albert and Drumheller, in homes that were never short on furry friends — six cats and two dogs, to be exact. Her mother, a warm-hearted woman with a deep love for animals, passed that compassion on to Barb, who has carried it proudly into adulthood.
That lifelong affection for animals blossomed into something even greater when Barb founded New Day Animal Rescue, a Quebec based nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for sick, injured, or disabled animals and finding them loving new homes. The story of how it all began is as inspiring as it is heartwarming. Barb caught wind of an injured dog in Morocco and in desperate need of help. Determined to save it, she and a friend coordinated the dog’s journey to Canada, where it was nursed back to health — and from that single rescue, New Day Animal Rescue was born. They have grown from that single dog to now caring for 12 critters and are actively seeking homes for them in the Trois Rivieres area. Great job Barb and all the best to your efforts helping less fortunate animals.
It’s no surprise then, that Barb chose an organization here in Alberta dedicated to the same cause. The Paws Up Program also seeks to make the lives of dogs better and will be receiving all Streets Initiative donations for the months of November and December. Thanks for your support Edmonton!
